Peloton Issues Bike Recall
Peloton, the company behind one of the current hottest home fitness trends, is voluntarily recalling parts on some 27,000 bikes due to a pedal malfunction.
Peloton was founded in 2012, aiming to bring fitness into the home through sales of equipment directly to consumers and offering a library of online streamed classes. While the company posted consistent growth each year after its founding, the pandemic – and closed gyms across the country – fueled incredible sales. Reports in May 2020 had Peloton’s stock up by 36% and online purchases jumping 61% to $420.2 million in just the previous three months.
The malfunction applies to PR70P clip-in bike pedals, which have been breaking off unexpectedly during use. To date, there have been 120 reports of breakage and 16 reports of injury. More information on repair and replacement options can be found on Peloton’s website.
