Duffy Win in Top Verdicts of 2015
(Philadelphia) A $5 million settlement secured by Duffy + Partners was listed in the “Top Pennsylvania Verdicts of 2015,” compiled by VerdictSearch and distributed by The Legal Intelligencer, the oldest law journal in the United States. In the publication, the settlement was included the number one premises liability recovery and the overall seventh top settlement in the commonwealth for the year.
In the case, Mangano v. James J. Clearkin, Inc., the firm represented a high school administrator who slipped on wet flooring glue that had been applied by a flooring contractor.
The client cited severe pain in her leg that did not appear on MRIs or X-Rays, but was identified as RSD/CRPS, a post-traumatic pain syndrome linked to the accident. The defense blamed the pain on a prior accident and/or prior medical conditions. Through depositions of defense corporate representatives, it was discovered that the contractor had prepared a company safety manual. However, it was never distributed to its employees.
