Tom Duffy to be Honored with Jefferson Moss-Magee 2023 Humanitarian Award
(Philadelphia) Tom Duffy of The Duffy Firm, a Philadelphia lawyer well known for his commitment to justice and community service, has been named the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Jefferson Moss-Magee Humanitarian Award. The award will be presented at the 36th Annual Humanitarian Award Dinner on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Logan Hotel, 1 Logan Square, Philadelphia.
Duffy joins a distinguished group of past honorees who have contributed positively to the Philadelphia region and are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. This includes former Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, former PA Governor Ed Rendell and retired NFL coach Dick Vermeil.
A lifelong Philadelphian, Tom Duffy was a young attorney on a partnership track at a large Center City law firm when he left to take a risk in opening his own firm that is now wholly dedicated to helping individuals and families who are the victims of catastrophic injury.
He has been widely recognized for his charitable support over the years, including the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, where he has served on the board of trustees for years. Magee honored him with its "Champion in the Community" award in 2009, and in 2016 named a portion of its rooftop Creative Therapy Center and Healing Gardens “Duffy Avenue” in recognition of his contributions.
In 2012, Duffy established the prestigious “Duffy Fellowship,” which underwrites staff attorneys at several legal service organizations in Philadelphia, including the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, Community Legal Services, and the Homeless Advocacy Project. This year, he expanded the program to include students from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law working in public interest roles in various organizations around the region for the summer of 2023.
Duffy also has been recognized for his volunteer service by the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania, Community Legal Services, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Irish American Cultural Institute of Philadelphia.
Proceeds from the Magee Rehabilitation Humanitarian Award Dinner honoring Tom Duffy will go directly to patient programs and services at Magee. For more information on tickets or sponsorship opportunities, contact giving@MageeRehab.org or call (215) 587-3090.
